Welcome to the first installment of Scribd’s new Guest Curator series! And what better way to kick off summer than with a collection of entertaining (and steamy!) romance novels?

We asked one of our favorite Romance authors, Maya Rodale, to curate a list of her favorite summery romantic reads. What she gave us is downright delightful. Read on for her book list and what she has to say about Summer Romance.

“For me, summer is a time for indulgence, travel, escape…and especially for lazy afternoons reading in the sunshine while sipping a cold drink.  When I’m reading at the beach, I love a good pirate romance—and in my opinion The Pirate Lord tops them all.

Or if I want a gripping, epic love story to keep me up late on a hot summer night, I pick up Gone With the Wind.

And nothing says pure fun like a good contemporary romance—authors Susan Elizabeth Phillips and Megan Mulry are my absolute favorites.

A gripping series is an awesome way to spend a weekend, and for that I recommend the Luxe books by Anna Godberson. It’s like reading Gossip Girl and Us Weekly…set in New York City, 1899.

Or perhaps I’m in the mood for some Regency romps—there are lots on my list!

What I love most of all about summer reading is that it’s a time when people stop worrying about Serious Literature and Books They Should Be Reading and instead just devour a rollicking good story, purely for pleasure.”

Maya Rodale began reading romance novels in college at her mother’s insistence and it wasn’t long before she was writing her own. Maya is now the author of multiple historical and contemporary romances. She lives in New York City with her darling dog and a rogue of her own. Find her online on her website and @mayarodale, and don’t forget to check out her books on Scribd!
