Scribd and WNYC Studios partner on Radiolab audiobook anthologies

Scribd — the reading subscription service that offers access to millions of ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, and podcasts — in partnership with WNYC Studios — home to many of the audio industry’s most influential and critically-acclaimed podcasts — is launching three new audiobook-length offerings based on one of its most popular shows, Radiolab. A two-time Peabody Award winner, Radiolab has been a beloved public radio mainstay for over 20 years and is available as a podcast with millions of listeners.

The audiobook anthologies offer three separate thematic journeys, through Radiolab’s signature blend of investigative journalism, first person storytelling, and innovative sound design to explore deep questions.

Each anthology, published by Scribd Audio, an imprint that expands the audience of existing independent works through new formats, brings together some of the best stories from previous episodes of Radiolab, alongside new, original content recorded by the hosts that offers a deeper look into these topics and episodes. The series features:

  • Volume 1 | Radiolab: Mixtape: How the Cassette Changed the World
    • Before the podcast and the smartphone, there was the cassette tape and the Walkman — two devices that, although not considered much today, were revolutionary. In five episodes from around the world, Mixtape explores the impact the cassette had, and continues to have, today.
  • Volume 3 | Radiolab: The Feels: Stories About Attachment, Confusion, Love, Grief, and Bliss
    • Radiolab combed its archive to create a volume bound to make listeners “feel all the feels.” Throughout five chapters, hosts Lulu Miller and Latif Nasser cover tales of attachment, confusion, love, grief, and bliss. Listeners will journey to the depths of the sea floor, venture deep into the jungle, verge into big cities, and even peek into the grave — all while exploring the mysteries of the heart.

“Scribd inspires the world through stories and knowledge, and partnering with Radiolab to create curated anthologies that educate listeners through easily digestible audiobooks helps us accomplish that vision,” says Greg Voynow, Head of Domestic Content Partnerships at Scribd. “Known for their best-in-class radio programming, including Radiolab, WNYC is a natural fit, and we know our subscribers find their content compelling, making the partnership a perfect addition to our catalog as we build the largest and most accessible library that connects storytellers, like Radiolab, with their audience.”

“WNYC Studios and Scribd share a belief in the power and intimacy of audio storytelling," says Lillian Xu, Senior Director of Strategy and Business Development, New York Public Radio, which includes WNYC Studios. “We're excited to partner with them to bring these specially curated collections of Radiolab stories to their audiences. These thematic anthologies guide you through the vast Radiolab universe, allowing listeners to discover and revisit stories with those that created them.”

In 2021, Scribd partnered with Pushkin Industries to create three audiobook anthologies from acclaimed authors and podcast hosts Malcolm Gladwell, Michael Lewis, and Hari Kunzru, which were popular on Scribd.

The Radiolab audiobook anthologies are now available exclusively to all Scribd subscribers as part of their $11.99/month subscription fee. All podcast episodes of Radiolab are also available on Scribd.
