What You Missed: T-Mobile's Big Bet, Biden's Big Words, and More

In What You Missed, we round up the best stories for you to read on your evening commute.

New year, new phone plans.

T-Mobile announced this week that the end of all data plans, save for the One plan, will come Jan. 22. The company announced in August that the plans would be phased out. Current customers can keep their existing plans.

It’s a bold move by the company: People don’t tend to use more than 3GB a month on average, and the One plan costs $70 — which is far more than some plans cost now.

The other caveat? The “unlimited” plan isn’t actually unlimited. Speeds could get throttled if you use a lot of data, and if you want to watch videos in HD (which would be the only reason for an unlimited plan), you have to get the One Plus plan, which is an extra $15 per month.

There is a tiny bit of light at the end of the One tunnel, however: Customers who use less than 2GB a month can get a $10 credit.

Russian Hacking

What did the Senate hearing reveal about Russian hacking?

A cybersecurity expert breaks down everything we learned from the Senate hearing on the Russian hacking scandal.

President-elect Donald Trump — who has repeatedly cast doubt on the officials’ assessments that Russia was behind the election hacking — was given a more-detailed look at the intelligence on Friday.

According to the declassified report, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the effort to influence the election.

The orca whale that was profiled in the documentary Blackfish has died. He was an estimated 36 years old. A cause of death was not given.

SeaWorld announced in March 2016 that it would end its orca breeding program and shows that involved killer whales.

Officials to probe train's erratic speed just before crash

A Long Island Rail train slammed into a platform at Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn on Wednesday, and now officials are looking into why it was going 10 mph (the terminal’s speed limit is 5 mph).

VP Biden to President-elect Trump: 'Grow up'

Trump took to Twitter — as he’s wont to do — to complain about how the Obama administration has handled the transition. VP Joe Biden, however, didn’t let this one slide.
